What do you do with a month in MOAB? Hike, bike, go jeeping and more. MOAB is the mother of all things outdoors. There are two national parks a stone's throw from downtown (Arches & Canyonlands), more Jeep trails than you can imagine and enough hiking trails to wear your best boots thin!

So what did we do? As much as we could each and every day. Arches is one of our favoite National Parks of the 50 that we've visited. This time around we did some hikes off the beaten path like Tower Arch and got permits to Hike the Fiery Furnace. We also revisited some of our favorite hikes like Delicate arch at sunrise. But this time we walked down into the bowl which I have to say made for some great pics like this one below.

But the best part was snapping a pic of this little chipmonk. He didn't care about Delicate Arch - He just wanted nuts!

We visited a ton of Arches this trip including catching the sunrise at the instafamous Mesa

Arch. Contrary to all those fancy instagram pics of solitude, the morning we visited there were at least 50 peeps standing under the arch including some instagrammers (ugh). We did enjoy the spectacle.

Everyone was gracious though and they happily let me squeeze in and get my sunrise pic. :)

What makes this arch so spectacular is that as the sun rises the bottom of the arch begins to glow orange. It's quite the sight!

But our favorite hike had to have been the Fiery Furnace. We loved it so much we got permits to hike it twice! Now mind you the first time we didn't download any features to All trails but the Second time around we did and we found all the cool spots. Fiery Furnace is alot of rock scrambling, and getting lost, but in the end it's the top of the charts for hikes. Here's a few pics. The first is Skull Arch and the Second is Surprise Arch which is really tough to find:

But for us one of the funnest parts was taking our Jeep on all the trails. Our Jeep has opened so many possibilities as it has really allowed us to go where our 4x4 Truck Camper cannot. On this trip we hit the following trails:

  1. Shafer Trail - Because who doesn't like switchbacks on a 16% grade!

  2. Gemini Bridges - Yes there are two arches there!

  3. Chicken Corners - A narrow corner with a 600 foot drop...Don't be Chicken!

  4. Kane Canyon - Beautiful Geology and a river.

  5. Metal Masher - Littered with Jeep parts on the trail...hahaha!

  6. Fins & Things - Make no mistake, if you take the optional trails, it's scary!

  7. Willow Springs Dinosaur Tracks; - You can get into Arches for free on this trail; AND

  8. White Rim! This trail was spectacular. Musselman Arch was one of the coolest!

You need a permit for white rim and you need to pay $5 bucks for Fins & Things but the rest you can tackle at your lesiure. The sights and geology on these trails are amazing. While I've posted most of these on Instastories here's a taste of what we saw:

So we hear that The Colorado National Monument over in Grand Junction is really cool and were going to go check that out...Stay Tuned and thanks for stopping by!
